Nominations have opened for the Scotland Loves Local Awards and Councillor Sonya Warren is hoping there will be a few local names in the running for silverware.

She said: "There're so many groups and businesses who go the extra mile for the community in so many ways.

"For example, we have shops that have opened up during lockdown and others that have added extra services to help keep us safe and make shopping better for us.

"We have people such as Kevin Mayne at Mayne's Coaches who has done so much to ensure folk could travel safely to their work in essential production.

"There're groups like Buckie's Roots who keep Cluny Square looking lovely with floral displays and also their and litter picking activities while Buckie Kindness Group volunteers have been promoting helping each other out, especially during the lockdown.

"The beach cleaning group is helping make our shoreline far nicer to enjoy plus helping the environment, too.

"There's the Lockdown Babies Group that gave new mums and babies so much help and support.

"The list is endless, we have fantastic destination shops, shops providing great personal service as well as loads of community groups that are all helping to make Buckie a better place to be.

"However, none of them stand a chance of winning an award if folk don't nominate them. Let's show appreciation to these hard working folk, say thank you by submitting a nomination."

The Scotland Loves Local Awards have seven categories: Climate Town Award; Creative Town Award; Streets and Spaces Award; Innovative Town Award; Town Centre Living Award; Place Leader Award; High Street Hero.

The final closing date for applications is 5pm, Friday, September 10. Recipients will be announced during an awards ceremony to be broadcast on Thursday, November 25.
