Buckie Thistle footballer Cohen Ramsay banned from driving after drink-drive offence
A HIGHLAND League footballer has been banned from driving for a year after getting caught behind the wheel while over the drink-drive limit.
Cohen Ramsay (24), who plays as a defender for title-chasing Buckie Thistle, appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court and admitted driving while over the limit in Dingwall on July 23, 2023.
Ramsay, who is a care worker, gave a reading of 38mcgs of alcohol when the limit is 22mcgs.
Fiscal depute Karen Poke told Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald that a police officer stopped Ramsay, from Maryburgh, on Greenhill Street, Dingwall at about 9.30am and immediately smelt alcohol.
Defence solicitor Marc Dickson said: "He was separated from his girlfriend the night before and some of his friends took him out.
"He got quite drunk and stopped drinking just after midnight. He felt okay to drive in the morning.
"This was a significant error of judgement. He accepts he is the author of his own misfortune."
Fining Ramsay £500, Sheriff Macdonald told him: "This is an expensive lesson you have learnt."
Ramsay was banned from driving for a year. If he completes a drink drive rehabilitation scheme this will be reduced to nine months.
